Course Requirements for Students for the 8-hour lnfection Control Certification Course:

All requirements must be provided to Dental Academy of California by e-mail at the time of Registration.

  • CPR/BLS (Must be Basic Life Support) Certification (Non-Expired) from The
    American Heart Association, The American Red Cross or The American Safety and Health lnstitute.

This Course Consists of:

Eight (8) hours of lnstruction blended with Home Study by Means of Electronic Media and (4) hours will be offered through traditionaI hands-on format in our Clinical Training Dental Office in San Jose Catifornia.

SB 1453 1750.1 (Effective1.1.2025) An 8-hour Board Approved Infection Control
Certification Course is required for the unlicensed DentaI Assistant prior to performing any basic supportive dentaI procedures involving potentiaI exposure to blood, saliva or other potentially infectious material.

As part of the legislative mandate, under B&P Section 1750, an unlicensed dentaI assistant under continuous employment for 120 days or more must complete, within one year from the date of employment, a DentaI Board approved Infection Control Certification Course, effective January 1, 2O1O. lt is also a requirement for the RDA, OA, DSA applicants to satisfy the applicant requirements with the Dental Board of California. Must be a length of 8 hours, and a Dental Board approved course in the Dental Practice Act (2-hrs) is required as well. Upon successful completion of the course, a Certificate of Completion will be issued.

Dental Radiation Safety Course Certification

Course Requirements for Students For The California Dental Radiation Safety Certification Course:

All Requirements must be provided to Dental Academy of California by e-maiI at the time
of Registration.

  • You must have completed a Board Approved 8-Hr lnfection Control Certification Course. (Please provide a copy of your Certificate)
  • CPR/BLS (Must be Basic Life Support) Certification (Non-Expired) from the
    American Heart Association, The American Red Cross or The American Safety and Health lnstitute.”
  • Students must have at least six months of experience in the dental field before registering for the DentaI Radiation Safety Course. (Letter from your employer is required, stating how long you have been employed and signed by your employer.)
    OR
  • Be a Graduate from a Dental Assisting Program. (Diploma or Certificate- please provide a copy.)
    OR
  • Enrolled in any Dental Assisting Program.
  • Must have a Social Security Number or proof of SSN. We only need the last four (4) digits of SSN. SSN will be used for the Certification purpose onty. (Dental Board Requirement.)

This Course Consists of:

45 hours of lnstruction combined with 24 hours of live instructions to complete the
Clinical and Lab portion of the course and Home Study by Means of Electronic Media.

To take X-rays in California this is a MANDATORY CERTIFICATION COURSE for entry Level Dental Assistants, DA and RDA Applicants to receive a certificate of completion in Dental Radiation Safety Course. This Certification Course is structured to meet the criteria set forth by the Dental Board of California. This course provides basic dental X-ray certification training demonstrating different exposure techniques. This course includes classroom, lab, and clinicaI training of dentaI radiation safety and various techniques traditional dental film and digital X-ray exposure, film mounting, bisecting and parallel techniques of X-ray positioning, processing the X-ray film, critiquing, and analyzing of dentaI X-rays..

The Laboratory portion of this course will include using manikins utilizing traditional X-ray for film processing and mounting of the X-ray films. You will be returning on Day 2
for the FinaI Clinical Exam on your Patient.

Four (4) separate clinicaI patients are required to be completed at your workplace
under the Direct Supervision of your Dentist. The Dentist must sign the "Extramural
Facility Contract" and must complete a 30-minute orientation by phone with the
program director to discuss the course outline objectives and Clinical Check off.

All clinical patients, total of (5) will need a Rx (Prescription) from a licensed Dentist that the patient is eligible for a Full Mouth set of x-rays. This course is meant to meet the criteria set forth by the Dental Board for the operation of dental radiographic equipment in California. Once the student completes all the requirements, a certificate of completion will be issued.

Coronal Polishing Certification

Course requirements for the Coronal Polishing Certification Course:

    American Heart Association, The American Red Cross or The American Safety and Heatth lnstitute.

This Course Consists of:

12 hours of lnstruction blended with Home Study by Means of Electronic Media, and
Eight (8) hours of Live lnstruction to complete the Lab and Clinical segments of the course in our clinicaI training facility, a Dental Office in San Jose.

Coronal Polishing Course for the DA or RDA Applicant. Prior to Licensing as an RDA, A
Dental Board approved Coronal Polishing Course must be completed.

The procedure is limited to the removal of plaque and stain from exposed tooth
surfaces, using an appropriate rotary instrument with a rubber cup, brush and a
polishing paste.

All supplies are provided. You must bring your own PPE.

All (3) clinical patients will need a calculus free form signed by A Dentist or A Dental
Hygienist. Dentist must complete a 30-minute orientation by phone with the program director to discuss the course outline objectives and sign the "ExtramuraI Facility Contract". Once the student completes all the requirements, a certificate of completion will be issued.

This Course Consists of:

16 hours of lnstruction blended with Home Study by means of Electronic Media and 12
hours of Live instruction to complete the Lab and Clinical portion of the Course.

This course is designed for RDA applicants and RDAs for License RenewaI requirements.

Students will be taught through lecture and demonstration through a Video format and
in person.

The Laboratory portion of the course will include using typodonts to place pit & fissure sealant material on sixteen (16) teeth, utilizing traditionaI hands-on format in our clinical training facility, a Dental Office in San Jose.

All supplies are provided. Must bring your own PPE.

Clinical instruction (Supervised) involves working on (4) separate clinical patients. Each patient must have a minimum of four virigin, non-carious, teeth. Minimum of one tooth in each quadrant.

Dentist must sign the "Extramural Facility Contract" and must complete a 30-minute
orientation by phone with the program director to discuss the course outline objectives and clinicaI check offs.

Once the student completes all the requirements, a certificate of Completion will be issued.

Our 2-hr lnfection Control Certification program is a continuing dental education course for license renewal only, which introduces and updates all Dental Professionals and Allied DentaI Healthcare Practitioners with the current lnfection ControI procedures in Dentistry.
